The Turtle Heads got together for an overnight ride. One of them ( who actually works for a living) had to visit a client in Southern Virginia. With a little planning they could get in 400-500 miles of mountain roads, all of it tax deductable as a business trip. We left on thursday night right after work and made tracks on I-95 to well south of Washington before it got dark.
In an unusual twist of luck the, first exit had a hotel with room and AARP discount (Pops is good for a lot of things). Across the street was a gas station and a nice Cafe with outdoor tables where we had diner.
The next morning we continued on I-95 to below Richmond. We followed the expressway around Richmond to bypass the traffic. They have toll both every mile or so it seemed. We peeled off onto a back road and cut across to Nottoway County. By 10:30 signs for Nottoway Correctional Facility pointed to the meeting location. Even though we were expected on bikes, a prision guard was on us before we had our helmets off. "You boys in a heap of trouble!" They were just checking if we were trying to break out some bad guys.
While the meeting was going on the other two Jam-Rs were getting info on the local roads heading toward the Blue Ridge Parkway. Ruth told us what road to avoid in a Motor Home because of all the twists and turns. Rt. 60 would be our road through Southern Virginia. Rt. 60 crosses the Blue Ridge about half way up. With no traffic at all on the Blue Ridge we made it to Waynesboro as the sky opened up with hail and a downpour.
